The Barking Squirrel Hops Farm partnered with Next Nature for a thorough environmental assessment of their property and to develop sustainability initiatives. Next Nature created a conservation plan customized for CRP grant assistance, structuring projects into progressive stages. The first phase centered on revitalizing the wetland/pond area. The initiative to plant along the wetland edge was a success, with the natural root systems efficiently addressing erosion issues on the farm. This restoration effort lured various wildlife such a s birds, frogs, and insects, enhancing the farm's biodiversity a n d creating a flourishing ecosystem. The increased biodiversity on the farm not only brought a sense of vibrancy but also provided natural pest control, reducing the need for harmful pesticides.
Next Nature partnered with Barking Squirrel Hops Farm to perform a comprehensive environmental assessment and develop a sustainability plan rooted in conservation principles. Supported by CRP grant assistance, the plan organized multiple initiatives into progressive phases, beginning with the revitalization of the wetland and pond area.
Restoration Process
Phase one focused on restoring the wetland edge through the use of native plants that stabilize soil, prevent erosion, and support natural water filtration. The process included Moasure surveying, site evaluation, SketchUp modeling, and full design-build installation, ensuring a balanced and data-driven approach to conservation.
Results & Impact
The wetland restoration successfully enhanced the ecological diversity of the farm. Native plantings encouraged the return of birds, frogs, and beneficial insects—creating a self-sustaining habitat ecosystem that improved biodiversity and provided natural pest control, reducing the need for chemical inputs. What once was an eroded area is now a flourishing conservation zone, blending environmental preservation with agricultural health.
